Featured Illinois Shows: Nov. 9 – Nov. 15

Here are some shows to check out around Illinois this week:

DIY Venue

Lark’s Tongue / Earth Witch / Kowabunga! Kid / Winder

Pizza Works (Peoria, Ill.)
7 p.m. | $8 | Friday, November 13

Champaign-based bands Earth Witch and Kowabunga! Kid are heading out on a weekend tour and will make their first coupled stop in Peoria on Friday night. Kowabunga! Kid frontman Aaron Shults is originally from the Peoria area, making Friday night’s set even more special for the band who’s gearing up to release an LP at some point in the near future. Earth Witch has an impressive live show behind frontman Ivan Catron’s guitarwork that will pair well with Peoria-based Lark’s Tongue, as well, making Friday night’s show a must-see if in the area.

Alex and the XO’s (Record Release)
with Red Scarves / Shinzon / The Darklighters
The Bistro (Bloomington, Ill.)
10 p.m. | $3 | Saturday, November 14
Bloomington-based indie pop group Alex and the XO’s will be celebrating their latest record Saturday night. The band’s self-titled LP was officially released in late September, but the band has delayed its release show until mid-November. Another Bloomington-based band, Red Scarves, is a band we previously recommended you check out live as they provide all the right tools on recordings, but are a group that seems to have things better in-place on stage than through headphones. With the harmonies these two groups can provide, Saturday night’s show should be one worth checking out.
