Here are some shows to check out around Illinois this week:
Title Fight / Alex G / Cloakroom
The House Cafe (DeKalb, Ill.)
8 p.m. | $15 | Monday, Oct. 26
Longtime hardcore punk band Title Fight will be playing at The House Cafe in DeKalb, Ill. with some stellar support in Alex G and Cloakroom. Alex G has been gaining momentum through the DIY scene over the past few years, culminating in the success of his album DSU last year. Now with a new album out, the Philadelphia singer-songwriter is looking to break through to the next level – a great time to catch the act.
Dingbat Dungeon (Urbana, Ill.)
7 p.m. | $5 | Thursday, Oct. 29
A heavily stacked punk show is shaping up to be our top mid-week show here in late October. Chicago punk band The Bug will be joined by Springfield-native Looming, who has been having a fantastic year after signing with No Sleep Records earlier in 2015 and then following that news up with the release of their debut album Nail Biter. And for $5, why not check out some great punk on a Thursday night?
Penny Horses / Waterfowl (Dual Album Release Show)
Cowboy Monkey (Champaign, Ill.)
8 p.m. | $5 | Friday, Oct. 30
Since The Fights’ 2014 record Off Your Horse, the alt-country scene in Champaign-Urbana has been taking off. Next it was Kenna Mae’s latest record Blue Darlin earlier this month, now it’s Penny Horses and Waterfowl both releasing new albums this week. We streamed a few songs off Penny Horses debut LP last week, so if you haven’t heard them yet, this may be a good time to check them out. And with Waterfowl adding their upcoming record to the mix, it might not be too far off that the CU scene starts to get remembered for its country bands than its emo ones.
