Mimicking Birds, who are signed to Isaac Brock’s label Glacial Pace Records, will stop through Champaign on Thursday night with fantastic backup from the local scene. Champaign-Urbana band Evil Tents, who have been inactive for an extended period of time, are reforming while Motes, who released arguably the CU scene’s best release of the year so far, are also playing. Truly one of the most well-rounded lineups in recent weeks, the night will be great for those looking for a performance but also features bands who back themselves up with excellent songwriting.

City MouthKrelboyne / The Phantom Broadcast / City Mouth / Pat Egan / Ocean Glass

Cowboy Monkey (Champaign, Ill.)
8 p.m. | $5 | Thursday, Sept. 3

Thursday night provides a great opportunity for music lovers seeking out a show in downtown Champaign. If you’re not into the Mimicking Birds/Evil Tents/Motes show at Mike N Molly’s, walk a few more blocks to Cowboy Monkey and catch a stacked pop-punk show happening for just $5. Five acts will play throughout the night, with Krelboyne atop the bill – one of the most exciting pop-punk bands in Central Illinois right now. Bloomington-Normal band City Mouth just re-released their self-titled album earlier this year and fit in well with Krelboyne and their CU brethren in The Phantom Broadcast.

Champaign, Ill. (Sept. 5, 8 p.m.)

Pedro the Lion frontman David Bazan is doing another Living Room Show tour through the Undertow Collective, but this time sees the singer-songwriter playing four Illinois dates in just two days. Bazan will travel from Pekin to Champaign on Sept. 5 to play two shows, while the next day he’ll play a 3 p.m. set in Chicago and then an 8 p.m. set in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The locations for these shows are kept secret, only known to those who purchase tickets (you can purchase tickets here).
