Here are some shows to check out around Illinois this week:
Ghost Track Featured Show
The Empty Bottle (Chicago, Ill.)
9 p.m. | FREE | Monday, July 27
Chicago experimental musician Bobby Conn will perform at the Empty Bottle in downtown Chicago on Monday night. The musician transcends genres by simply incorporating so many to create a unique style that has made him one of the most endearing artists in the city. Joining him is London-based band Boxed In and Chicago-based FEE LION, a one-woman looping act that calls on familiar indie-pop influences of the past decade.
Subterranean (Chicago, Ill.)
9 p.m. | $8 | Friday, July 31
Mexican post-rock band Joliette starts off their tour with Canadian-based Life in Vacuum with a stint at Chicago’s Subterranean. The bands will have local support from Chicago hardcore band Itto. Depending on the crowd the bands can pack in Sub-T, this show has the potential to send everyone home sweating and with their heart beating faster than they can count.
Mike N Molly’s (Champaign, Ill.)
9 p.m. | $7 | Saturday, August 1
Kansas hardcore rap group Ebony Tusks comes to Champaign and will perform on the same bill as Champaign-Urbana rap trio Curb Service. It’s exciting when a solid hip-hop bill gets put together in CU, a place proven to breed great hip-hop but has always struggled to cultivate it. While this show will draw hip-hop heads from around town, the outlier on the bill is opening band That’s No Moon. The pop band rarely plays shows around town, even after putting out one of the best CU records of 2014 in Hyperion, so this adds more mystique to Saturday’s lineup in downtown Champaign.
